Are you looking for new games like GTA Online? In this article, we've listed some of the best alternatives currently available.
Surprisingly, there isn't quite anything out there that matches GTA Online. There are some games that come close and other games that hit the mark for specific features, but nothing has the scale and open world fun that GTA Online offers.
With that being said, there are still some games you may still really enjoy if you enjoy playing GTA Online. Let's take a look at these games below.
The game that shares the most similarities with GTA Online is APB Reloaded. This game offers the same open world crime based mission system and a range of player customization options.
There are some major pros and cons for APB Reloaded to consider, and most players have unfortunately moved away because of these cons. As a result, the player base is quite small.
If that doesn't bother you so much, you've got a lot to look forward to with APB Reloaded. Firstly, the game is free to download and play on PS4 and PC.
In APB Reloaded, you start the game by choosing whether to be a cop or a criminal. You'll want to choose the same faction as your friends, because it does impact what missions you can do.
In the open world, criminals must mug civilians, ram raid shops, and cause other crime to bring in cash. Cops can attempt to arrest any players that they catch breaking the law.
There are also plenty of missions for players to take part in. These missions are similar to the open world missions from GTA Online. Expect the same kind of carnage you see from gunrunning and CEO missions in GTA Online.
One of the biggest features in APB Reloaded is the customization options. You do have to pay for a monthly membership to get access to these, but when you do, you're free to paint your own graphics on your vehicles, character, and clothes. If you make something exceptionally special, you can clone it and sell it on the market to other players.
This can be a fun way to make money in APB and it is without a doubt one of the best customization systems I have seen in a game yet.
APB Reloaded doesn't come without its issues, however. Many players spend money to get better weapons and vehicles, and these give those players a big advantage over non-paying members.
If you don't spend money, it can take a long time to unlock better weapons and you'll always feel one step behind players that do spend money.
If you miss the feeling of taking on a GTA Online heist with your friends for the first time, you may want to try Payday 2.
In Payday 2, you'll be planning out heists all day long. The game puts you and a group of three other players into different heist scenarios. You have the choice to go in quiet or go in with a bang.
Usually, you'll get more rewards if you go stealthily, but pulling it off can be a real challenge. You must coordinate with your team members and carefully consider all options available to you before starting the heist.
Players can purchase equipment and tools on the heist planning screen. There are also options for changing weaponry and armor. Typically, heavy armor and weapons will arouse suspicion quickly, but choosing weak armor and light weaponry will make things more difficult if you mess up a stealth approach.
As you play, you'll level up different heist characters and you'll then be able to unlock new skills and abilities for these characters to use during heists.
Just like GTA 5, Payday 2 is on a variety of different platforms, including the PlayStation 4, the PS3, the Xbox One, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Switch, and on Steam.
The base game has a wide variety of heists to play through and there are also purchasable DLC packs that include more heists to jump into. The heist scenarios range from robbing banks and jewelry stores to conducting raids on criminal gangs.
There are a huge variety of heists to try in Payday 2 and each one has multiple different potential solutions.>
If you are looking for the same open world carnage that GTA Online can offer, you may want to consider the multiplayer mod for Just Cause 2. This mod is free to install and download on the Steam store, but you must own Just Cause 2 first.
Thankfully, Just Cause 2 is very cheap as well and the base game is a lot of fun. The mod is also very easy to install - you just click the install button on Steam and you're good to go.
In the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod, dozens of players are thrown into the same open world. Players can use grappling hooks, throw around explosions, fly planes, and shoot each other down.
Players can also steal each other's vehicles and generally just cause a lot of havoc. If you own your own Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod server, you can also spawn in pretty much anything you can imagine. From hostile enemies and civilians to giant whales attached to cargo planes, the only limit is your imagination.
The multiplayer mod for Just Cause 2 still does have some issues - the mod is still in development and there are some bugs and problems with player syncing at times. The player base is also very small in comparison to GTA Online.
However, if you're looking for a unique experience and a couple hours of fun, you'll definitely find that in this mod.
