Sony tried to do something else, with two different show locations, but the company presented way fewer games than we expected and their show suffered from numerous technical difficulties including sound problems, stream going off, and more. Overall, one of the weaker shows, but still above EA and Square Enix.
The show started with the crowd being gathered inside a church, the same one shown in a long The Last of Us II trailer. The trailer showed lots of gameplay and we can say that the game is brutal, bloody, gritty and that it looks amazing! The funny thing is that character models in cutscenes look worse than during gameplay parts, which is pretty strange. Anyway, gameplay scenes looked too scripted but still, it all looked superb.
Next, we got a chance to see a completely new game called Ghost of Tsushima, a samurai game set in the open world environment. Visually, the game looks similar to The Witcher 3 (with The Witcher 3 looking better than Tsushima if we are being honest) but the gameplay is completely different. Combat is quick, with ultra-fast sword moves (something Samurai warriors were known for), stealth, and grappling hook usage. Cool looking and pretty original.
Next, we saw a couple of trailers for unannounced games. The first one is called Control and looks like it takes place in the future, in time after humanity managed to conquer nanotechnology since every object can transform in a couple of seconds. Really cool and made by Remedy (Alan Wake, Max Payne). The second game was mysterious until we saw Chris Redfield! Resident Evil 2 remake looks incredible and it seems Capcom decided to go with a full remake instead just remastering the game like it was the case with Resident Evil 1.
And yes, Sony showed an extended Death Stranding trailer with some gameplay thrown in. At first look, the game looks like a walking simulator with a twist, but we have to see more in order to figure out what the hell is going on in the damn game. Next, we got to look teaser for Nioh 2, a sequel to a wonderful souls-like title.
And the end of the show was reserved for Spiderman, lots of Spiderman. We found out that the game will revolve around Sinister Six story, in which Spidey will have to face six worst villains, all at the same time. Graphically the game is stunning with fun, fast-paced and fluid combat and seamless gliding all over New York. And to that, a new PSVR game made by FromSoftware and that was all from Sony.
Star of the Show: The Last of Us II. The game looks stunning and it will surely become a smash hit once it comes out.
Biggest Surprise: Nioh 2, it was completely unexpected and we can't wait to play the game.
Biggest Letdown: Lack of games in general.
