It can be tough living life as a millennial entrepreneur, and some-times money is tight, and you'll need to quickly find an extra source of income if you want to keep carrying on living your dreams out. A lot of young entrepreneurs are finding creative new ways to make a side-income, without having to sacrifice too much time from focusing on their business efforts, so here are thirteen of those ways you can start making a side income.
Blogging is an age old format that's been around since the birth of the internet, and was one of the first ways that internet users started to make money online. There are a few different ways you can make money blogging. Using affiliate links is one of the easiest and most popular ways, which allows you to profit of a percentage of every sale made through a link that is embedded into a post on your blog. You could also do sponsored posts, where a brnd pays you to talk about them or their product in one of your posts. Of course, this doesn't all just happen overnight, you need to set up a blog and build it so that has consistent content and a large readership in order to start making any money off of it. Think about what you could write consistently about, many entrepreneurs choose to write about their experiences and tricks in start-up creation, but you really can write about whatever you want. If you've got a knack for writing and a passion for a particular topic, blogging could be an excellent way for you to make a side income.
If you've set up a blog, but you're looking for a way to make more money quicker, why not try freelance writing. Writing is something that many people are good at, entrepreneurs especially, but rarely capitalize on, fearing that they won't be taken seriously or be unable to find any work. It's true that if you have absolutely no writing experience, you might find it hard to find work writing online, but if you have some writing samples to hand (starting a blog can be a good way to showcase your writing ability) and prove that you're willing to produce a variety of content, you should be able to find work through content mills or freelancing websites. If you really want to up the ante, try taking some free online courses on websites like coursera, and boost your writing portfolio with a few certifications.
Completing surveys online to make a little pocket money can easily be misconstrued as a scam, but in reality, there are plenty of websites that are ready and willing to pay you for your opinion. You're very unlikely to start making a regular income from filling out surveys, but if you're looking for a quick way to make some extra cash, this could be an excellent option.
Many, many young entrepreneurs find themselves in a position where they need to take a part-time job just to keep themselves afloat for a while, there's no shame in it. Sometimes the best way to make a bit of money quickly, is to find a local retail establishment and apply for a part-time job. You'll be getting a regular wage and hopefully, decent money which you can either invest into your business, or keep in your pocket as an extra bonus. Plus, you might just meet some new friends.
Got a hobby, or interested in taking up a hobby? Why not profit from it too? If you've already got the entrepreneurial spirit, why not extend that spirit to those old jewelry projects you used to do, or the painting you used to make. There's a thriving market for hand-made gifts and trinkets, and there's plenty of easy-to-learn crafts out there. Set yourself up with an Etsy shop and an Instagram account for your shop, and you're good to go.
Everyone has something they can teach, even if you don't think you do. The online course industry is booming, as more and more people realize that they can make money from teaching what they know off by heart and more and more students want to learn online. Chances are if you're a young entrepreneur you know something about marketing or business, or even crafting, writing, pitching, accounting etc. Market yourself in the right way, and you could be getting hundreds of thousands of views on your online courses through websites like Skillshare or Udemy, and profiting from it too. So if you're not camera shy, get out there and go for it.
Drop-shipping is somewhat of a complicated way to make money, but when researched and done right, it can really give a boost to your bank account in an easy and non-time-consuming way. Essentially, drop-shipping is a retail fulfillment method where the store (you) doesn't actually keep any stock of it's products, instead opting to ship straight from the manufacturer to the customer, by-passing the middle-man. You act as the store-front and liaison between the manufacturer and consumer. When a customer buys a product from your store, you place and order with the manufacturer and get them to send the item directly to the customer, without ever having to touch it yourself. Sounds simple, right? If you know how to market yourself, or better yet, know the ins-and-outs of sites like Shopify an eBay, you should be on a roll in no time.
In a similar vein to blogging, podcasting can be an excellent way to voice your opinions or advice in a creative way, while also earning money. Podcasting has become hugely popular recently, with people listening to podcasts on their way to work, while working out and countless other scenarios. There are fictional podcasts, informative podcasts, advice podcasts and podcasts from all sorts of other niches. What do you like talking about most? If something springs to mind that you just know you could talk about for hours, you might just be the perfect candidate for starting a podcast. You can earn money through sponsorships and ads placed throughout the podcast - some of the most popular podcasts out there are bringing in thousands of dollars in ad revenue every episode.
Every got super annoyed when you click onto a website and a million pop-ups appear, the scroll bar doesn't work and everything is generally disorganized and poorly designed? Well, now you can channel that frustration into cold hard cash by joining a website testing service, who will pay you to review and provide constructive criticism on their clients websites. Generally you'll be recorded speaking as you scroll through the website after being given a specific task to carry out. You won't be bringing in the big bucks, but you can definitely make a little extra pocket money this way.
Like the sound of your own voice and enjoy reading? Why not try recording audiobooks for a little extra money. Surprisingly little of the books ever published are converted into audiobooks, and now programs like Amazons Creative Exchange connect audiobook narrators with books to narrate. You don't have to have any qualifications to join, just a clear voice, some self-confidence and a lot of patience.
The amazon mechanical turk is a marketplace where anyone who needs a job doing online that can't be done by a computer goes to be connected to a worker who will do that job. Hirers post a job (called a HIT) on the mechanical turk for a price, and you can pick and choose which jobs you'd like to complete. Once you're done, you'll receive your payment. Generally the jobs are pretty mundane, simple tasks such as checking for grammar mistakes, filling out questionnaires and more. Again, you're definitely not going to be making huge amounts of money, but you can make a few extra dollars.
If you've got a flair for social media, enjoy taking pictures and love connecting with others online, then it might be time to start building and monetizing your social media. Sure, it's pretty much everyone's dream to build their social media to a point that they can make a living off of it, but with a little work, you can definitely make a bit of extra cash through sponsored posts and affiliate links. By building and monetizing your social media, you can also help to drive more traffic towards your entrepreneurial efforts and gain more customers.
There are countless ways you can make money online, whether it be setting up websites, online shops, freelancing or simply filling out surveys, chances are you'll find something that can make you a bit of extra cash on the side. With a bit of research and some confidence, you might even be able to build yourself an entire separate revenue stream to support your entrepreneurial efforts.
