Fortnite has finally been released on Android, but downloading it is a little more complicated than we'd have hoped.
In this article, we share tips on how to download Fortnite on Android. We'll also share some strategies for playing Fortnite on a mobile device.
Because Fortnite is currently in beta, you must sign up for a beta invite. New invitations are sent out in waves, so you may need to wait some time before you are accepted.
To sign up for the beta, first visit the Epic Games Fortnite Android beta page. When you click sign up, you'll be asked to include your email address.
You will be asked if you already have a Fortnite account. If you do, make sure to say yes. You will then be asked to choose your original platform and to sign into your account.
This will help Epic Games find your progress and purchases and make sure you can access that whilst playing on Android.
Next, you'll be asked to select your Android device from a list of supported devices. The list is limited at the moment. If your phone isn't on there, you'll need to wait until it is supported.
Once you've picked your device, you'll be put on the beta waiting list.
You should receive an email right away that lets you pre-install Fortnite.
If you are willing to take the risk, you could potentially skip the queue by finding a modded .apk app file online.
Just keep in mind that downloading third party .apk files has a risk associated with it. Because Epic Games is constantly working to remove Fortnite .apk files from the internet, we won't be including a link here.
You'll need to search for an .apk file for yourself. We'd suggest only using ones that are posted on community forums or on websites like Reddit.
You can check the comments from other users to find out whether the .apk file works and whether it's safe.
Once again, there's a risk to downloading modded Fortnite .apk files so make sure you do your own research.
Whether you get a modded file or download the .apk file directly from Epic Games, the initial file size will be just under 5MB.
However, this file is just the installer package for Fortnite on Android. The actual game size is just over 1GB.
Make sure you have enough storage space before you download the Fortnite installer app.
Once you have Fortnite installed, you may want some tips on how to play. In this section, we've offered some advice to help you get started.
These tips are useful for all mobile players, regardless if you're on Android or iOS.
The first thing you should do is adjust your touch screen sensitivity.
Playing a shooter game like Fortnite on your smartphone is difficult to get used to at first and you may find the touch controls to be a little over sensitive.
Once you've picked a sensitivity, it's important to stick with it. As you play more, you'll learn to get used to that particular sensitivity.
Changing it frequently will just make it harder for your hands to get used to the controls.
Building in Fortnite is one of the most important gameplay mechanics.
On PC and controller, it's far easier to build. You'll often see the best players on other platforms building massive towers and walls within seconds.
Realistically, this just isn't possible on mobile, but that doesn't mean you should give up on it.
Taking time to learn the building mechanics on mobile is worth it, even if your building speed is far slower than it is on console or PC.
On PC and consoles, you can use earphones to tell where gunshots are coming from. On mobile, we'd suggest using earphones too.
You can also use the mobile exclusive on-screen cues to find out where shots are coming from.
This feature was added by Epic Games to make it easier to play Fortnite with speakers. It's a nice touch but it can't beat being able to hear what's going on around you in-game with a pair of headphones.
It may be tempting to go to spots like Tilted Towers, but playing on mobile makes it more challenging to deal with multiple enemies at once.
Save yourself the frustration by going to the smaller towns. This way, you will have a better chance to get yourself situated with some weapons and boosts first.
Once you've geared up, you can then go visit the more popular areas.
The Fortnite mobile aim mechanics aren't perfect. To shoot, you must tap and hold down on the screen, but doing so makes it hard to move or even aim whilst shooting.
To solve this problem, double tap the screen when you want to shoot and on the second tap, keep your finger held down. You can then move your finger to aim at your target and your character will continue to fire.
It's a very counterintuitive system but this double tap method makes dealing with the shortfalls of playing on a touch screen a little easier.
If you double tap your finger on the screen as you use the movement joystick, you will start to run automatically. Once you are auto-running, you can let go of the movement joystick and you will continue to move.
You will then have your fingers free to move the camera around and see what's going on around you. This makes it far easier to keep an eye on your surroundings whilst moving.
That wraps up our look at how to play Fortnite on Android. We hope that this guide has been useful. Let us know if these tips helped you at all.
