Though the world can seem like a dark place, there are still places where light exists. One way to help with lighting up the world is to be genuinely kind. There is a kind of peace one can achieve by being kind and seeking out kind people to have in their life. While it might seem like a small thing, it can create ripples of positivity all around you.
In this article, we're going to take a look into the importance of kindness, and how you can have more of it in your life. It doesn't take large acts to be a kind person, and it can help your own self-confidence in a lot of ways, making your life and the world around you much more enjoyable.
There are a number of answers to this, but kindness involves many things. It involves seeing other people as human, whether it's a stranger on the street, a customer service employee or a family member. It can be all too easy to play favorites with other people, but most are deserving of kindness.
Kindness also means taking the extra time to do something nice. Whether that's cleaning up after yourself, picking up a piece of litter, or helping someone out who looks like they're in need of an extra hand. There are so many things you can do to be kind.
There are plenty of reasons why it matters to be kind. It's not just an empty action. The following reasons will give you a look into why it's important to take a step back and remember that kindness can make your experiences a whole lot brighter, and leave you feeling happier.
When you're kind to someone else, it makes them feel good. This is especially true if it's a stranger, or just someone who isn't expecting a little extra kindness at that time. Giving it to them can really boost their day, and leave them feeling better than they likely were before you helped them out.
Knowing that you had such an effect on someone else's day can also provide a boost to your day. When you're feeling great about being kind, it then makes you want to engage in that kindness more often. In time, you can also begin to see that people in general have more kindness to offer than you may have thought.
You can't always tell when someone really needs that little bit of kindness. Someone you come across could be having a terrible day. They may have received bad news, lost a job, or have a variety of other unfortunate things going on in their life. As a result, you never know when a small act of covering the bill for coffee, or even just a smile, can bring a little light into their current experience of life.
Even if someone you come across is having a great day, that small thing can make it even better. Think about the kinds of small things that would mean a lot to you in your day, and use that knowledge to help others. You'll surely find immense satisfaction in helping others.
Imagine having done a simple task for a stranger, one that left you both feeling wonderful. For the rest of that day, both sides will be left with days that are a little bit brighter. As a result, one or both sides may decide to pass that kindness onto someone else, adding another person to that list of people who's days are improved.
The kinder we are to one another, the more beautiful and enjoyable the world around us is. Rather than fearing judgement or cruelty, we'll be able to look forward to days that are happier, in which we can all take turns making the world a brighter place.

These days, people who are truly kind can seem to be somewhat rare. However, they are out there! You can come across them just about anywhere, but there are some places you may be more likely to connect with those who value kindness highly.
For example, places with a high amount of volunteers can be a great place to start, if you're interested in volunteering some time. Otherwise, you can also make a local Meetup group that shares views on kindness, volunteering, or helping others in some way. There are really a number of options you could try out!
A great way to discover the kindness you want to include in your own life is to find kind role models. While that isn't a popular thing in the world of celebrities and others who are just ripe for being role models. Look for people like Bob Ross, Steve Irwin, or Mr. Rogers. While they might seem cheesy, these are people who truly value humanity and the wellbeing of others.
That said, you don't need to seek out a celebrity! You can also find people in your own life that you'd like to emulate. These people can make for great mentors.
If you're not sure where to start, or don't have a lot of time, then it's a good idea to start small. Something little like smiling at someone, asking how they're doing or holding a door open can be great ways to be kind without having a large time requirement.
As your confidence grows, you can start to engage in kindness in ways that are a little bit larger. Consider the things that matter most to you, and in no time at all you'll be enjoying being kind, and enjoying kindness from others. A little bit can go a long way!
Being kind doesn't mean saying yes to every little request that comes your way. It's okay to be firm when you don't have time to do something in particular. There can be a fine line, but being pushed into helping someone move, or giving money when you know it won't be fully appreciated isn't just kindness.
True kindness doesn't come from guilt or the feeling that you have to do something. Rather, kindness is something that comes from you wanting to do it, just because. There doesn't need to be a reason or reward, but it does need to be genuine.
In keeping with the genuine nature, it's best to focus on things you feel really passionate about. For example, if you're a huge animal lover, then it can be a great idea to volunteer some time at a local animal shelter. It's a great way to get out, help out animals and meet some great people.
Just about any positive venture is sure to draw in others who care about that cause, and connecting with those people can really give your life a boost. You'll be making great memories and using kindness as a means to help others, or find other ways to contribute to the world around you.
There are so many situations in modern times that teach people to expect some kind of payment for their kindness. While it can be a great bonus to receive a little reward for your work, it's not really genunine kindness if you're hoping to get something other than the warn feelings of knowing you helped.
This is especially true when it's just a small task that you can do quickly and easily. For example, not everyone on the street is going to smile back, and not everyone will thank you for holding a door open. Doing it just because you want to makes any task the most genuine.
Kindness is a thing that can be so easily taken for granted. However, it's also something that can bring a lot of light into your life as well as the lives of those around you. When you're kind to those around you, it can leave everyone feeling better, even if they started off having a terrible day. Just take small steps, consider all the little ways in which you can be kind to yourself, others and the world around you, and you'll be experiencing the positive effects in no time at all!
