16 Spring Activities That Will Benefit Your Health

Spring is a fantastic time for getting outside. In many places, it's not too hot or too cold, and spending some time in the sun after a dreary winter can really put some pep in your step. However, it's not always easy to decide what you want to do.

On top of the great weather, spring is also prime time for those who are looking to get active for just about any reason. These springtime activities are ideal for helping you to be healthy, whether that includes physical health, mental health or both. On top of that, they can be a whole lot of fun!

Go Hiking

Head for a well known hiking trail or get lost in the woods. This is a great time to get a little sun and enjoy the nature around you. Take the time to smell the flowers, watch wildlife and just admire the world we live in.

You can hike with friends or alone, just make sure you're well prepared! Don't forget things like water, sunscreen, bug spray and a first aid kit.

Visit The Zoo

Who doesn't enjoy visiting all the different animals we can't normally see? The zoo is a great place to enjoy seeing some cool animals, visiting gift shops and having a day out in the fantastic weather.

You may even choose to pack some healthy snacks and enjoy a little picnic in a grassy area, or wherever your local zoo may allow. Bonus points for coming up with educational games for younger family members to play while you're there!

Volunteer Somewhere

Spring is a great time to volunteer doing something you enjoy. You can volunteer at your local shelter and walk some dogs, head to a local homeless shelter to help out with any number of things, or just about any other positive cause you can think of.

You'll feel great about spending some time helping others and getting out into the sun to do so.

Do Yoga Outside

Yoga is great no matter where you're doing it, but it can be even more enjoyable in the early morning rays of the spring sun. Make sure to choose a peaceful space that fits your needs.

If you don't mind other people around, a local park might just do the trick. Otherwise, you may want to think about somewhere a little more secluded to enjoy your zen.

Check Out A Farmers Market

A farmer's market is a great place to get some exercise and shop around for some local, organic produce. As a result, it's a great way to benefit your health in more than one way.

It can also be a great experience that allows your family to get out of the house and enjoy a local outdoor event. Make sure to add it to your list of things to do this spring!

Try Some Gardening

Gardening is another great way to get outside in the sun. In addition, you can save money on food by growing some of your own produce and provide yourself with healthy fruits and vegetables to enjoy.

Many can also find that taking care of plants can increase their feelings of calmness. There are few things more zen then taking the time to water, trim and care for your garden.

Go Kayaking Or Rafting

Getting out on a boat can be a really fun time during the spring. Whether you love rafting or kayaking, there are few things quite like enjoying a ride down the rapids or on a calm river.

Just make sure that you bring plenty of sunscreen, water and use life jackets. That way, your ride can be completely safe as well as enjoyable for the whole family.

Go For A Bike Ride

Spring means those who love going for bike rides can finally bring their bikes out of storage without having to worry about the rain. There are few better ways to feel the wind in your hair and enjoy the sun while pedaling around town.

Some may even decide to start riding their bike to work, if that's something you're able to do. It's a great way to get healthy and save some money!

Go For Walks

Spring is the perfect season for taking walks. You can choose to go for a quick walk at just about any time of the day and you won't need to worry about too much excess heat.

It can be great to go for walks during your breaks at work, or if you have a few minutes after lunch. Some also enjoy throwing in some evening walks, which can be peaceful and useful for helping your dinner to settle.

Head For Some Water

Swimming is a fantastic activity for both spring and summer. While the lakes and rivers may still be on the colder side in your area, you may find that places like pools are starting to open.

Going to the pool can be an inexpensive activity that can keep you and your family entertained for hours on end. If you have your own pool, it's also a good time to start preparing it for summer!

Play A Sport

Whether you enjoy baseball, football or just a nice round of golf, spring is a great time to get back to your favorite sport. You can also opt to play by yourself in some sports, with a few friends or join a local intramural group if you're looking for a little more competition.

Camping is the perfect way to get out into the nice weather and break away from the stressors of day to day life. You can simply step out into nature, shut off your cell phone for a few days and just relax.

Clean Up The Planet

Why not combine getting out into the sun with taking care of the planet? It's good for you and the planet, and you'll leave knowing that you made a difference in the world. Additionally, it doesn't have to be a large cleanup job.

Just head over to your local park, beach or even a walking trail and pick up any garbage you happen to see in the area, or just pick up trash when you happen to be outside already.
