Sims 4 is a great game but it won't reach its full potential until you install some mods. But which mods are worth getting? We've got you covered with our list of best Sims 4 mods in 2019.
The Sims 4 is already five years old and today the game is stuffed with content, which wasn't the case in its early days.
You have dozens of expansions to choose from and they together can add hundreds of hours of fun into already excellent sandbox playground. But Sims 4 cannot reach its full potential until you dive into its thriving mod scene that isn't famous as those covering Bethesda's games but that has hundreds of cool mods available for everyone playing the game.
The library of mods is huge and it can be hard to pick the best ones. But worry not because we gathered the best mods available at the moment and decided to share them with our readers.
Below you'll discover all sorts of cool add-ons such as gameplay modifiers, mods that bring new stuff to the game, visual mods, as well as a couple of cheat mods that can be pretty cool during idle times or when you get bored from living your life responsibly.
Oh, also keep in mind that certain mods require specific expansions in order to work, which also should be found on their download page.
Before we dive into the best mods for Sims 4 you should know how to install mods, just in case.
First, you need to find the Mods folder inside the game. Use Windows Explorer (on Windows) or Finder (if you play on Mac) and go to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods (you can use search to locate EA folder).
You can create the "Mods" folder in case you don't have one in your Sims 4 folder. Then all you have to do is download the desired mod and copy it to your "Mods" folder.
In most cases, that's all that needs to be done, even in case you download a zipped folder. In case a specific mod requires different installation process the info should be present on the page you downloaded the said mod from.
And since different mods don't always work as intended with other mods back up your mod folder before installing any new mod. Then simply add the new mod, check out whether the game works normal or not and then create a backup of mods folder before installing any new mod.
That way you can always know which mod breaks the game so you can easily delete it. Now that we covered mod installation and backup let's check out the best mods for Sims 4.
Let's start with a mod that gives you unlimited control of every Sims in your game. The MC Command Centre is a huge and extremely powerful mod that basically turns you into the Sims God.
With the control center, you can adjust and tweak a huge number of variables of every Sims found in your current game (they all are listed and ready for tweaking).
You can adjust chances for different career paths for each Sim, tweak employment rates for different ages, check out every detail of every Sim (and adjust them if you desire), cut time needed for your Sim to take a bath, or eat, or take a dump or whatever.
There're also sliders for marriage preferences, having children, and other life goals which you can tweak for non-playable Sims. And that's just a slice of the cake when it comes to the MC Command Centre since the mod hides many other features.
Meaningful Stories is a great mod pack that brings lively behaviors, believable emotional states and changes, moods that change based on environmental effects, and more.
The most important parts of the pack are two excellent mods called Emotional Inertia and True Happiness.
The first one fixes the wild and erratic ride that is Sims' mode swings. Instead of going from extreme happiness to clinical depression over the course of a couple of minutes Sims will gradually change their moods and emotions.
They will slowly change moods and will be able to stay in a certain mood for longer, like in real life.
True Happiness makes being happy a bit tricky. Instead of setting happy as the default mood the mod sets "fine" as your default state. In order to get happy you have to actually experience positive moments such as getting a raise at work, eating a great meal, maybe meeting someone new, and other stuff that make us happy in real life.
Other mods included in the Meaningful Stories package allow the environment to affect moods (living in the trash will make your Sim miserable, and renovating the house will make them joyous, etc.) as well as randomizing moodles.
This means that mood triggers hand randomized effects that can be stronger or weaker depending on a pure chance. Sometimes going to a date will make your Sim jump from joy; other times they will happy just a bit.
This small but handy mod expands the number of traits you can assign to your Sims. Instead of having to pick just three More CAS Traits returns the good ole' days of The Sims 3, allowing players to pick six traits and have a more varied personality.
This is great and makes the game much more fun and diverse. Also, the mod allows adding new traits to your pets, which is an awesome extra feature!
Once you install more traits mod you should jump to modthesims page listing more than one hundred new trait mods available for download. Pick between new hobbies, emotions, make your Sim addicted to social networks or maybe turn them into Karaoke maniacs.
They can become great early birds and do all their work during early morning or maybe become night owls, changing the day for the night.
Two extremely interesting custom traits are great for those who like endless sandbox games are the ones that allow your Sim to live forever.
You can pick Eternal Youth and stay young forever or you can get Immortal trait that lets your Sim to age but prevents death. The first one looks more interesting but maybe you want to live your life as an old dude who excels in every possible career.
The Sims 4 features a solid number of career choices but adding new ones is always good. Some custom careers are imported from previous games and others are completely new. The common thing with them all is that they add so much depth to the game (and work perfectly with eternal life traits).
You can start a world-famous band, become a sports agent or dive into the world of fashion (as a model and/or designer). Become a tattoo artist or a Zookeeper. You can even become a professional gamer or a game developer if that's your desire. Go wild and pick any career you want!
While not exactly careers, these two mods are great for all of us who want for their Sims to get a proper education. Kids can go to school while young adults can apply for a college, get their degree and, unlike real-life, live their life without any college debt and with an excellent job.
College mod is great because your Sim actually goes to the classroom every day (it plays like a job) and once they get home some studying is needed in order to get good grades.
There are three majors to pick from - Physical Education, Fine Arts and Music - and on top of lectures, your Sim can also attend extra activities for even better grades. Each major comes with unique goals and activities.
The School mod works and plays similar only here you just go to the school and study.
No majors (which is logical), no extracurricular activities, just classes. Once you install the School mod make sure to have a new Elementary or High School in your neighborhood for the mod to work.
What if you want a truly unique career choice and school and college simply bore you? Well, you can always become a sorcerer! The Become a Sorcerer mod turns the Sims 4 into a land where magic exists and where you can cast spells and become a force of good or evil (depending on your choices).
You have the mana bar that empties when casting spells, you can aid or hurt other Sims with your spells, and your magical career starts once you touch a lump of clay and replace a certain number of needs with special, magical ones.
After that start casting spells, which then unlock new ones based on spells you cast and your magical (and moral) preferences.
This is one of the most popular mods because it introduces a huge overhaul to personalities in the Sims 4. The number of changes is huge so make sure to read details on the mod's download page.
One of the biggest changes is removing those annoying idle conversations. With this mod enables your Sims will always have to talk about something and not stare and talk about nothing all the time.
Slice of Life is an interesting mod that introduces physical reactions to certain moods and emotions. Like in real life, when you Sim gets embarrassed their face will blush (and will also blush when they're flirting with someone), they will get tears in their eyes when sad, and their cheeks will turn red after a couple of glasses of wine.
But this mod goes beyond emotions. Your Sims can get dirty hands when filthy, or walk around in bandages when injured. If they lose a fight their face will be covered in bruises, etc. The mod also adds 17 new emotions, a slew of talents as well as a phone that can be used for calls, texts, and apps.
Be sure to read the mod page for details because Slice of Life adds a large number of changes and certain features have to be manually activated.
Customize your Sim to the extreme with this powerful mod called MorphMaker. MorphMaker is a powerful sculpting tool that allows all kinds of body modifications. Change everything, or change small details like lip size and fullness, ear shape, and any other thing you desire.
The mod supports modifying Sims, aliens, vampires, and pets so you'll be covered no matter which person you want to modify. The mod can be a bit hard to learn so make sure to check tutorials available on the mod page and after you get into it well, spend the next fortnite creating your perfect Sim.
And in case you want to adjust the height of your Sims (or your neighbors) just download the height slider mod and tweak the height of every Sim to your heart's desire.
Oh yeah, this mod speeds up time and makes the game much faster and with much less idle moments, a feature that everyone wants. Instead of waiting for Sims to wake up, take a shower, or return from work just hit the super speed and they will be awake/clean/back at home in milliseconds!
A great and simple mod that will make every game much more interesting and completely free from idle moments. Grab it here!
Another small mod that can mean a lot to many players. Playable Pets allows you to control any pet your own, walk around the house, chill out in the backyard, or simply annoy your owner.
The mod's creator states that the mod doesn't change a lot. It doesn't add new interactions or allow you to play the whole Sims game as a pet.
It simply allows players to control pets and that's it. But even that small addition can be really cool at moments when you just want to forget about everyday worries and be a dog for a couple of hours.
An interesting mod that allows players to adjust gender preferences for each Sim found in the game.
You can create exclusive male or female preferences, or adjust them to create mixed preference Sims who can prefer one gender over the other or prefer both genders equally. A neat and very interesting mod that brings a small but very important feature.
This is a great mod that adds a bunch of rabbit hole activities to the game. Rabbit hole activities allow Sims to participate in activities on their own, without you following or controlling them.
With The Explore Mod your Sims can now get addicted to gambling, go to the DMV, have a temporary work that creates a side income, visit various places that affect their mood, eat at restaurants, improves certain traits by visiting various places, goes shopping, and more.
In case you want to build a new relationship or improve an existing one you can pick multiple Sims and send them to explore together, and they will also go explore on their own from time to time. An excellent mod that adds realistic activities to the Sims 4 and makes the level of immersion greater.
Yes, this mod returns cars to the game, a feature that somehow wasn't included in the base Sims 4 game. Now you can pick between a number of models (5 in total, each costing between 10K and 20K Simoleons) that can be driven anywhere.
Just enter the car (you have to place it on terrain and your Sim has to be able to reach it), select a destination and you're set! Grab the mod here!
Using cheats in Sims games is like using them in GTA titles; in other words, everyone does it, if only when bored. We all create a save from time to time and then go crazy with infinite money cheat, or simply spawn any item we need.
Well, since the Sims 4 comes with a huge number of cheat codes remembering them all can be a hassle so why not then make them available right inside the game?
UI Cheats Extension is a mod that introduces a new IU element that contains every single cheat found in The Sims 4, allowing players to use any cheat in a matter of moments. An extremely handy tool that will be a perfect addition to every mod collection.
This is a really cool cheat mod that unlocks every possible item in build and buy menus right from the start. Mind that the mod only unlocks items, it doesn't make them free. This is great because you will be able to create any house you want and equip it with any piece of furniture you find cool.
