It's all about survival of the fittest. Our brains are hardwired to do everything we can in order to survive, because survival is every living being's ultimate goal.
When a mother needs to feed her baby, she finds a way, because it is her natural instinct to protect it and help it to survive, as the baby is an extension of her. When you need to pay the rent you find a way, because otherwise you are out on the street.
If you have a party to go to and you need a new dress, you find a way to get one so that you can go and enjoy yourself with your friends.
It's very simple. Anything is possible when you believe in it. The mother believes in the survival of her baby. You believe you need a roof over your head. You believe that you must attend the party in a new dress.
Some of these things may seem trivial in comparison to others, but really it is all about the same thing - a mind-set. Take a moment to think about thin different things you believe in. Do you ever challenge your own thoughts and beliefs?
The trouble is that our sense of survival is skewered in the modern world, and the things that we really need or want for ourselves are influenced by so many outside factors that it is easy to start doubting ourselves.
Do we really need or want something? If we don't know for sure, then how are we meant to believe in ourselves in order to achieve those things?
The first step to getting what we want and need is to know what we want and need. In order to be able to do this we need to know ourselves. Keep reading to find out how you can increase your levels of self-belief by getting to know yourself better.
It might seem obvious that if you want to believe in yourself in order to get everything you want, that you need to develop your confidence. The important thing is that when you work on improving your self-esteem it allows you to be more confident in knowing yourself better.

You should always listen to what someone has to say, because they could share useful insight. The trick is to know what to take on board, and to be able to separate it from your own thoughts, feelings and opinions.
Other people's input has value, but your own input is just as valuable, so never underestimate what you feel. And remember that if someone else's viewpoint is different to yours, you don't necessarily have to take it as a challenge or opposition. Just accept it for what it is - someone else's thoughts and experiences.

Whereas is you have an idea of where you'd like to go or what you'd like to have, or who you'd like to be, it gives you something to work towards. Having dreams helps you to imagine and get more out of your life.
It is only by dreaming big that we are able to think about what our lives could really look like, rather than just sitting and accepting what our current situation is.
If you are perfectly happy and comfortable in your current situation that's fine too, but you should try asking yourself whether the reason you stop yourself from dreaming too big is really because you don't believe you can achieve more for yourself.
When you dream big, you open up doors of opportunity, and by stepping through those doors you can learn so much more about what you are truly capable of.
